Next Bank budgeting wizard
INTRODUCTION
Tailor built budgeting based around the user’s needs
After working with our primary stakeholder familiarize ourselves with the current state of the Next Bank customer facing platform, we spoke with interviewees selected to match the current user base for Next Bank’s platform. From there, we built the ground work, establishing our user’s needs and guided the client toward a solution that was based in the goals and challenges of their lives.
INITIAL RESEARCH
Giving financial stability and meeting users where they live
The client’s initial goal was to compete in the market place by providing emerging technological solutions that would re-envision how their users would approach banking. Though after speaking with users and looking at their core demographic information, the Next Bank customer was more concerned with achieving financial stability and maintaining their current quality of life. We guided our client away from solutions around voice-based financial interaction and contactless payment and more toward establishing a budget that they could truly set and forget.

IDEATION
Putting pen to paper
Our team then built out a flow and looked at methods to construct a budgeting approach that would help users save without greatly disrupting the way they already live. The flow would allow minimal setup on the user’s part but also allow for editing and adjustments where necessary. We also worked with Next Bank’s existing partnerships to fold in their Next Bank debit card which, when used, would automatically apply additional savings.
IMPLEMENTATION
Bringing our ideas to life
After getting agreement on our approach, we built out a working prototype to demonstrate the process and showcase the experience in a testable format. We introduced several components to help aid users set and meet their budgets, including the features listed below:

Putting our work to work
After presenting our proposal to the client, we got buy-in for a contract to work with them to improve their customer facing application. With our solution, that was built out a strong user based approach, we were set to put our work in front of Next Bank customers to validate our approach.
